Still life painting provides a rich opportunity for me as an artist to hone my style and be mindful. I have brought the focus back to my oil painting after retiring from teaching art in the NYC Public School system in 2014. I prefer to be one with nature, painting “en plein air” during the spring and summer months, and then focusing on still life compositions in the studio allowing for a different kind of contemplation. Many of the paintings you’re seeing have been done both in my studio and in classes taken at The Arts Council of Princeton and classes I have taught at the West Windsor Arts Council.
While viewing my paintings, quietly contemplate them at first; notice the subject, the composition, the light and shadows, color and texture. Hopefully, all of your senses can be awakened, as we might not get to fully experience in our busy daily lives.
“…in a way—nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small—we haven’t time—and to see takes time like to have a friend takes time.”
– Georgia O’Keeffe
